Founded in 1994, SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is a global, nonprofit organization that helps people overcome problematic addictive behavior through free in-person and online meetings. SMART employs science-based techniques that have proven to be effective in helping individuals overcome addiction to substances and harmful activities. SMART has been endorsed by the leading government and medical authorities in Australia, the UK, and U.S.

Mike Hooper is SMART Recovery’s Regional Outreach Director for the southeastern United States. Prior to assuming this role, he was the Ohio Outreach Director.

Mike U.S. Army Veteran who served in Cuba and for The Department of Homeland Security during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is also a SMART Facilitator and participant and specializes in conducting meetings for Veterans and First Responders.

In his role as Regional Outreach Director Mike works to bring the message of SMART to as many people as possible. He carries a message that you have the power within you to address your substance use disorder and live a balanced, healthy, purposeful and meaningful life.

Hooper’s certainty about SMART’s value, through his lived experience, helps build relationships and deliver SMART Recovery face to face training to new meeting facilitators. He is also developing a network to impact the recovery community with methods to accomplish sustainable lifestyle changes.
